Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, Evan was introduced to glass blowing in 2001 at University of California San Diego. While pursuing a degree in Psychology, he became interested in the complexity of glass as a material and the vast creative potential of its molten process. After graduating, Evan moved on to the position of studio technician for Public Glass in San Francisco, an arts non-profit with an emphasis on both community education and professional art practice. He refined his technical skills by assisting other artists, teaching classes and building relationships within the larger glass community. Evan began to create artwork inspired by natural forms and the interplay of glass and light.
After 6 years in San Francisco, Evan accepted an opportunity to develop a glass studio in the remote islands of the Maldives. The resulting project with Soneva Resorts (pioneer in sustainable luxury concept ‘Waste to Wealth’) is a glass studio that utilizes waste bottle glass to create upcycled functional and sculptural works along with immersive glass experiences for guests. At the head of the art program, Evan completed 17 month-long art projects with world renowned glass artists during his tenure, including: Maestro Lino Tagliapietra, Paul Marioni and Howard Ben Tre among others.
“The process of working with glass engages mind and body: Using knowledge of chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, and then uniting it with tools, movement and coordinated teamwork…it all exists right at the intersection of science and art in real time. It’s a beautiful dance.”
